Buying local produce eliminates wasteful fuel consumption to transport the produce and also supports the businesses of local farmers. I much prefer to give my cash to a local farmer who toils everyday to build a farm enterprise to feed locals than some anonymous supermarket. When I buy local I know where and how the produce is grown and that ups my confidence that the food is fresh and sanitary.

A special summer treat is always found when visiting the local farm market. Each visit offers some new surprise. I love knowing the produce I eat is raised in the same area where I live. I like that the produce enjoys the local fresh air and grows in an environment rich with lush earth. I so enjoy seeing the lush strawberries, plump blueberries, rich red tomatoes, succulent watermelon, and delicious white corn offered at local farm markets. Shopping becomes a joy when strolling among displays of locally grown fruits and vegetables. I'd rather feel the sun on my body in a beautiful outdoor market than suffer the chill air conditioning of a huge supermarket.

When I vacation I also enjoy visiting farm markets. It is a great way to enjoy local produce and get to know the locals who always provide lots of tips on things to do in the area. So shop locally for produce and other foods. I sometimes splurge on foreign foods like rich pasta sauce from Italy or chocolates from Switzerland for the holidays; however, on a day to day basis I far prefer to buy and consume food grown locally. I hope my efforts are helping to prevent a small bit of global warming and aid the environment.
