WORLD No 1 Tiger Woods cruised to an eight-shot victory at the Tour Championship last night and criticised the East Lake course in Atlanta which hosted the event for being the easiest he has played in more than a decade.
Woods birdied three of the last six holes to seal the win and inaugural FedExCup honours. Three strokes ahead overnight, the American fired a four-under-par 66 for a tournament record total of 23-under 257.
After bogeying the par-three second, Woods rattled up six birdies and one more bogey to secure his 61st PGA Tour title and a $10 million bonus as the first FedExCup champion.
His playing partner and good friend Mark Calcavecchia closed with a 71 to share second place at 15 under with US Masters champion Zach Johnson (68).
Woods hit out at the course after shooting a third-round 64 on Saturday. "I prefer not to play it like this. I prefer courses where [when] you shoot something in the 60s, you've earned it," he explained. "That's why I love the US Open so much. You shoot a round in the 60s there, man, you've thoroughly earned it."
"When you get greens this soft and pins this easy and greens this slow, you're going to have a bunch of birdies."
