The Angels thrive on their running game and need a good performance from ace John Lackey, while the Red Sox need Manny to be Manny:

Run for it:

The Angels thrive on their running game, which is as much about how they run the bases on batted balls as it is about steals. That might not be enough to match Boston's offense.

The Angels nearly had as many homers (seven) as steals (eight) while losing the season series 6-4 to the Red Sox, and they don't appear positioned to muster much power in this series.

Right fielder Vladimir Guerrero has been limited to DH since Sept. 5 because of a triceps problem. The Angels' biggest power threat will be in the lineup, starting the series as DH. But one of his protectors in the lineup, center fielder Gary Matthews, has been left off the roster with tendinitis in his right knee.
