WASHINGTON -- Felipe Lopez's single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Nationals a 3-2 victory over the Braves at Nationals Park on Wednesday evening.
Washington was down, 2-1, when they rallied back to win the game in the 12th. With the bases loaded and Manny Acosta on the mound, pinch-hitter Ronnie Belliard walked to force in Austin Kearns to tie the score at 2.
Reliever Buddy Carlyle entered the game, and Felipe Lopez took the first pitch and singled to left field to drive in Willie Harris to end the game.
Nationals starter Shawn Hill pitched his best game of the season. He lasted eight innings and gave up one run on four hits. He retired 14 of the first 16 batters he faced, but he ran into trouble in the sixth inning, when Yunel Escobar singled to right field to drive in Gregor Blanco and give Atlanta a 1-0 lead.
Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens was just as affective, lasting seven innings, while giving up one run on two hits.
But the Nationals ended up tying the score in the bottom of the sixth, when Rob Mackowiak scored on a fielder's choice.
