Monday at CES ASUS confirmed what I reported last week: the next-generation Eee PC will have a larger screen, optional WiMax, and Windows XP.

In a joint ASUS / Sprint / Intel press conference, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih said that the new version will have 7-, 8-. and 8.9-inch screens (up to 1024 x 600 resolution). Windows XP will be available, as will WiMax.

The new Eee PCs are scheduled to be delivered in Q2, 2008. That makes one wonder, since Intel was at the conference: that's when Intel has said it will ship its "Echo Peak" WiMax module for Centrino laptops. Centrino-branding for the Eee? An interesting possibility.

However, Shih was close-mouthed about what we all wanted to hear: the price. He indicated they were not ready to disclose the price, but that it would be "competive." We'll be waiting.
