Intel has realized the importance of Digg like Social Networking architecture and has launched a website called "Cool Software". Members can post information about cool softwares they come across and discuss their experience and knowledge about them. Companies that receive a lot of votes get elevated to the site's front page where the casual visitor can see what community members consider the most interesting software. One good thing about this website is that one don't need to be a member to post a comment or review of a already posted software. The Faq section says
Although CoolSW shares some common features with other voting communities, we are different in practice.
The CoolSW site also provides tracking information on the status of any submission. They have a weired kind of colored category system. And RSS feed of all categories are available. By the time I came across this website it had 441 Software Submissions and 104 Conversations started. Till now highest rating went for Intelpedia - Intel's company-wide wiki which obviously belongs to INTEL. HOW COOL??? Plus VLC media player got only 2 votes and zero comments by now ..
Anyways It sounds like a cool project to me as it would surely help people who are interested in open source projects.
PS: More on Social Networking Websites that spawn like mushrooms..
just check out these two social news websites .. DropJack and LinksMarker and identify 5 difference :D
