As expected, Apple released the iPhone 1.1.2 software update to coincide with its release in the U.K. and Germany on Friday. What I didn't expect was that the update would already be hacked.

The 1.1.2 update patched a flaw in the way OS X handles TIFF image processing, which was the way the iPhone was hacked after the 1.1.1 update, and it also wiped out third-party applications, as before.

The new jailbreak is very raw, however, and requires many manual steps, as opposed to the 1.1.1 jailbreak. But it's been tested and confirmed at TUAW, and it's a start. If you're not sure what "jailbreak" means, simply put it opens up your iPhone's file system so it can be accessed from your computer.

The new jailbreak procedure is from the same folks who provided the 1.1.1 jailbreak. If you've still got 1.1.1, you can go to AppSnapp in Mobile Safari for the following:

* Jailbreaks iPhone/iPod Touch on 1.1.1
* Patches Springboard to load third party apps
* Activates non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
* Fixes YouTube on non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
* Installs Installer.app v3.0b5 on the iPhone/iPod Touch with Community Sources preinstalled.
* Fixes Apple's TIFF bug, making your device MORE secure than it was without AppSnapp!
* Enables afc2 protocol

If these guys have the manual jailbreak done already, expect a much easier, similar to the old AppSnapp version soon.
