In what can only be described as a romantic fairy tale with a twist, "Stardust" is a summer surprise and a delight to watch.
Best-selling author Neil Gaiman ("Anansi Boys", "American Gods", DC comic book series "Sandman") has taken a few steps into the world of movies and TV with works such as "MirrorMask," however "Stardust" marks the first story from the gifted British writer to be presented to the mainstream movie-going audience.
Director Matthew Vaughn (better known as the producer for movies such as "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") bravely takes on this challenging movie as his sophomore directorial effort.
As Tristan Thorne (Charlie Cox) tries to woo the English town of Wall's resident diva, Victoria (Sienna Miller), he is faced with an uphill battle. Humphrey (Henry Cavill), the town's eligible, if pompous, bachelor easily has the advantage in the quest for the hand of Victoria.
During a nighttime rendezvous, as Tristan struggles to win the heart of Victoria, a star shoots overhead and crosses into the mysterious land beyond the wall. In a final attempt to snag the hand of the irritating lass, he promises to cross the wall and retrieve the fallen star (Claire Danes).
Unknown to Tristan, the death of a king, a missing princess, and witches lead by Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer) desperate to recover their youth are all tied into the fate of this fallen star, who has a name, Yvaine.
